PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT POTENTIAL OF PROJECT ACTIVITY FOR ELEMENTARY SCOOL STUDENTS

The work presents the results of a review of psychological and pedagogical theses. The purpose of the review was to generalize the empirically proved personality development potential of project activity for elementary school students. Two basic authors’ viewpoints are provided with regard to possibility of project activity at the initial stage of general school education. Variability of project activity concept definitions with respect to educational practices is highlighted. It is stated that personality development value of project activity in elementary school locally at home economy lessons is most studied. The authors’ classification of project activity by method of its organisation is provided. The studied aspects of positive effect of project activity on personal development are generalized. The following aspects of elementary school project activity are highlighted as insufficiently studied with respect to their personality developing potential: local discipline (Russian language and literature), mixed-age (middle and high school students) and organismic age work in curricular and extracurricular time.
