There has been conducted a comparative analysis of the social perception towards the peers of primary school age children with a minor degree of psychic underdevelopment and those with normal development. There have been singled out qualitative and quantitative criteria of the social perception estimation of this group children (the perception and recognition of facial expression, emotionally coloured phrases, appearance characteristics, physical shape and actions of the peers). There was developed a criterion-oriented diagnostic complex which gives the possibility to estimate the distinguishing features of the social perception in children with psychic underdevelopment. It is identified that the specific peculiarities of social perception of primary school children with a minor degree of psychic underdevelopment towards the peers are the following: the impairment of the adequate identification and verbalizing of the neutral emotional expression of the face and emotionally-coloured phrases of the peers; the replacement of the factual appearance and actions characteristics of the peers by their own interpretation of their state, appearance and actions. There were singled out common age features of the social perception of the primary school age children of both groups. A more adequate perception takes place with a support by a schematic face image, and is perplexed when perceiving some emotions by photographs. Also when perceiving the actions of the peers both categories of children reveal the sense of a long-term action more exactly than details and short-tem actions which are situational and require special motivation. On the basis of the received amount of data we have singled out and described the levels of the development of the social-perception complex characteristics of the percipiency of the peers by primary school age children with psychic underdevelopment in comparison with age norm group.
